DD cut her lip - how do I know if she needs a stitch?

DD (18m) just fell on the corner of a sharp wooden step, she's cut the inside of her lip, blood was pouring out. She's ok now and bleeding has stopped, lip not terribly swollen but there's a cut on the inside, hard to tell how deep. Do I need to take her to A&E to see if she needs a stitch or do I assue she's ok bec the bleeding's stopped and she's eating shreddies now?!

If the bleeding has stopped and the cut is on the inside no stitching needed.

Shreddies a good sign!

my LO has done this a couple of times now. The first was quite bad she cut the inside of her lip and her gum, but a nurse friend said they only stitch if it's the outside of the lip that's been cut. She healed up in no time and you cant tell now. Your DD will be fine :)

why is that peasandlove? is it because the mouth will clean it so it shouldn't get infected? or is it an aesthetic thing?

I think because the mouth heals so fast, and they stitch the outside if there's a chance it will scar.
My DD's really did heal quite quickly. We took her to the dentist as she bumped her front tooth back a tiny bit and we were worried about it, but now you wouldnt even know it had happened and the tooth is fine

we had rubber things on the corner of this particular step but she keeps pulling them off!
off to buy a great big bag of cotton wool to wrap around her Grin
