Hi, I've just joined Mumsnet and am wondering if anyone has any experience of a baby with SVT (supra ventricular tachycardia). My 8 week old ds ended up in intensive care at 4 weeks with a heartrate of 305bpm. He was only in hospital 2 days and was diagnosed with SVT. We give him meds to regulate his heart twice a day and monitor his heart rate with a stethoscope. I believe this condition is quite rare in babies and was wondering if anyone else has any experience of this. Thank you!

hi.our son has svt too. Diagnosed at a month and a day old. He was in intensive care for a week then a few days in the childrens cardio ward. Very scary times! He has amiodarone just once a day now. Is this the med that your little one takes? We are finding it increasingly difficult to get him to take it well, as he is becoming wise to the position that we put him in and the different teat type that we use.

Hi there, our 8 week old son has SVT too. He was diagnosed at birth (his heart rate was 280bpm) and spent two and half weeks in intensive/special care while they tried to get the right combination and dose of drugs to stop the high heart rate occuring (he had 10 episodes in all!! - V.scary). Manchesteralice - he's also on amiodarone once a day and also takes propranolol three times a day. At the moment he's taking the meds ok as we disguise them in milk, he's a v. hungry boy Grin and as yet hasn't noticed that he sometimes gets funny flavoured milk from a different teat. I do worry that as he gets older it will become increasing difficult...How old is your son?

How often do you guys check your babies heart rate? We're trying really hard not to check too often, only if he get's super upset or if he's acting out of character. LollaM we thought about buying a stethascope, but I just know I'd be checking his heart all the time and would just get more stressed out than I already am, so we decided not to get one. Do you find it helps?
