There is a case of chicken pox at dd1's pre-school.

DD2 is 12 wks old.

Is i really dangerous for babies?
Should I stop sending dd1 for period of time?
What signs do I need to look out for?

Very worried and appreciate advice!

My dd had them when she was really young and TBH when you have older dc there is not much you can do to avoid them.I wouldn't stop sending DD1 to Nursery as the likelyhood is she has already been exposed.

If she does get them obviously go and see the GP for advice. From what I can remember DD had a high temp and was covered by the end of the day in crusty type spots. Look out for spots in strange places DD had them in her vagina and ds had some in his eyes Sad.

Watch out if she gets a very high temp as my dd had a febrile convulsion while she had chicken pox but this can happen in any baby with a high temp not just if they have chicken pox.

Good Luck.

Thanks comewhinewithme, I'll keep a close eye on dd1.

Can dd2 get them even if dd1 doesn't?

No worries. Yes dd2 could get them and dd1 could be fine or vice versa.
Or they could be ever so helpful and one could get them a week after the other one recovers.

is your baby breastfed?
my son had them when baby was 11 weeks old- apparently he got my immunity to them from the breast milk??? he didnt get chickenpox

ijudge · 10/02/2011 13:55

Yes she is, fingers crossed then dd2 gets immunity from me.

Is it worth getting some lotion or something in just in case?

Don't know about babies with CP, my DC were toddlers. I deliberately let DS2 play with other contagious children twice to get it over and done with and because there were no 'occasions' coming up we'd need to miss out on. He didn't get CP either time and got them b4 Christmas when nobody else we knew had them Confused. Can't plan anything with children just try and b prepared Smile
