Head lice on 18 month old

Nomorerain · 09/02/2011 22:25

She has very fair, fine hair and tonight I noticed 5-6 lice for the first time. I have a 3yr old so guessing she has it too but I can't see any yet.
Please can you tell me what the best treatment is? Older DD has eczema so not sure if she'll be okay with medicated shampoo. Incidentally, 18m old has been very unwell today - high temp, listless. Could it be related to the lice?

Thanks in anticipation.

Get a Nitty Gritty comb and just comb their wet hair with lots of conditioner in. Do it every second day for a week and you should be rid. You can use Hedrin, it doesn't have chemicals in as it works by suffocating the lice, but I would try the conditioner first for a week.
I doubt if the little one's illness is related to the lice - apparently they can make you ill but only in very very extreme circumstances.
Good luck, just keep combing and they will go away.

The Nitty Gritty comb is available on perscription from your doctor info for your doctor here so that'll save you some money. It's fab even on very fine hair.

You can use any form of oil including a basic cooking oil such as sunflower to suffocate the little buggers - the oil blocks their spirols. You just brush a load through wet hair & leave in for about 10 minutes. Then comb through. Repeat every few days for a wekk to catch any stragglers.

Thanks very much both of you for your advice. I'll get one of those combs.
