Ongoing virus

Dd1 (7) has been ill for 10 days. She has cough, sore throat, earache and tummy ache. They come and go a bit. Earache and sore throat have eased a little, but still coughing. Temp hovering at 37.5. Her normal temp is about 36.6. Her throat was very red a couple of days ago, with a few white patches so wondered if it was tonsillitis, but this has improved now.

Last night she coughed for 3 hours before finally falling asleep. She coughs until nearly sick. Very blocked up. I just wondered how long it's going to go on for! She's not ill enough for the GP, but not well enough for school. Anyone else had this?

Don't know what to with her tomorrow. Temp is now normal, but she has been coughing for the past 2.5 hours. Just had to steam her. Coughing a little less, but still going.

She's already missed just over a week of school. Problem is she doesn't want to go back! Would you send her tomorrow if temp still normal? Throat is not as red. She sounds blocked up and this blardy cough.

A2363- hope you're feeling better. My other children have had it, but only missed a couple of days. Dh just gone to get himself some more night nurse as he can't stop coughing. My sore throat is hovering!

I would take her to a GP as it could be bronchitis. If it's bacterial she'll get ABs. Also it could be a mild case of pneumonia.

No I wouldn't send a child who hasn't got over an infection to school. Also, think how annoying it will be for everyone else to be with her in class if she's coughing non stop.

If she sounds like she's trying to cough up a badger, get her seen. Agree with winnybella and bronchitis. I never had ABs with Bronch, but had an inhaler that helped massively.

Thank you. Lots of people said to me oh send her back if she's just got a cough now, but I wasn't sure. Totally agree it's not good if a child is coughing in class. I know there is a d&v bug around at the moment and don't want her to go back and pick that up. She probably needs a couple more days to get energy levels back. She has mainly been lying on her bed and the sofa for a week.

I had decided to keep her off today before I looked on here. We're going to take the dog for a short walk to see how she gets on. Temp still normal. She sounds blocked up and has a sort of dry cough that goes on and on. Thanks for advice.

Why am I on here when I should be making dd2's packed lunch!

Still ongoing. Went back to school on Wednesday although she was still not 100%. she was probably more I'll than I gave her credit for, but she has a tendency to milk illnesses. Friday after school TA tells me she has been complaining about her ears all day. She still looks pale, but makes it to Brownies.

She has spent most of the weekend, lying down, complaining she feels ill. When I ask what is ill she lists head, ears, throat and tummy. If I ask her to pick the worst two she says ears and head. Not eating much, but temp is normal. I got her sudafed childrens syrup yesterday as she sounds blocked up, but that doesn't seem to have helped. She has had this for over 2 weeks now.

I can't see her being at school tomorrow and think i'll have to take her to GP. Do you lot think it's just a virus dragging on? The pain is on top of her head and at the back - sounds an odd place, but she always complains of it in the same place.
