DD (8) got a head injury at school at lunchtime. Very long and quite deep. It has been glued. I am keeping her off tomorrow for observation but I have read it is 48 hrs obs.

What pixie says is very reasonable and sensible. You can give calpol for mild headache, it wont disguise any symptoms.

I would do 48 hours tbh, if that's what you've been told. Head injuries that are very serious are rare but they do need very close observation just in case.

was she nauseus or dizzy, did she faint or show any signs of being unconnected with reality

I'd send her back to school tomorrow if the answer is no to any of these

a cut on the head is very different to concussion

I'd keep her off till Monday tbh.

I would monitor tomorrow and send her Friday is she has had a good day. Make sure school are aware and to call you if there are any problems.

Do bear in mind that most schools won't administer calpol though, so if she stll has pain or a headache I would keep her at home.
