DS has a flu (I think) and had high fever on Saturday, almost none yesterday and 39 degrees tonight.

It's not because of secondary infection, is it

Normal I think, my DC's have been the same on occasions, seems like they get better and then relapse a but with temp fluctuations. How old is he? Do be careful with temps over 39deg though, risk of fits etc if you don't get it down....assume you are giving calpol and/or ibuprofen? You can give both if necessary, every two hrs alternating each so you don't give either within 4hrs of last one but you avoid the wearing off period....

No risk of a fit with a high temp! It is the speed that the temperature rises that may cause a convulsion Not the height of the temperature. Antipyretics do not prevent convulsions anyway. Just keep an eye on him and if he is uncomfortable give him something for it. Otherwise just let the fever do its thing ( this is according to the NICE guidelines btw)

sounds normal for the flu we had, expect it to peak avery 48 hrs, thats what ours did. just when you think they are getting better it gets worse again, and goes on for ages (sorry!)

winnybella · 01/02/2011 12:30

Oh, no. Arrrgh. How long did it go for, lucy?

DD's hot now. Of course.

2 weeks, longer for DS who got pneumonia afterwards....Sad

Arrgh, I think you were right, lucy. DS seems to be getting over it, cough is becoming productive etc, but DD (2) had a high fever on Tuesday, none yesterday and 39 in the morning today! She fell asleep in my arms before I had a chance to give her some paracetamol, so she's sleeping in her cot.

Arrrgh.
