DS has a flu, I think- weird fever pattern

Sorry, I've got another thread going but thought a new one might get more responses.

So, sudden high fever on Saturday, horrid cough, headache etc etc. Low fever yesterday (without any meds). Tonight 39 degrees in the evening. Haven't checked for a while, he's asleep.

He refused paracetamol, should I wake him up?

And is it normal to have some days with fever, some without?

He seems ok, just tired and coughing, but eating etc.

I don't know but my DH has had something very similar last week. Cough and weird fever up and then down, no fever without meds for a bit and then back to raging hot. After about 3 days it turned into a sort of weird heartburn. And then by end of week he was fine. I wondered if it was flu too. But it didn't really seem 'bad' enough and he didn't have any chills/muscle pain. But who knows? Hope your DS feels better soon!

I was worrying a bit, because I thought I've read somewhere that returning fever can mean secondary infection or something
