Hi, I need someone to calm me down and talk sense to me!

My 15 month old daughter had her 13 month injections last week and has become poorly this week. She has had diorreah and a high temp which I have been treating with calpol.

She has been crying loads and kind of clingy, which is normal for a LO under the weather, but tonight she started being violently sick.

I've cleaned her up and given her a lukewarm bath, given her some water and she's now asleep, but I googled side effects of MMR etc and found loads of sites which tell of the deaths of children following complictions after injections, it has really alarmed me, I realise this is rare, but I just can't stop thinking about it.

It is very, very rare.
My DD2 got very sick the week after her MMR, she had a fever for 4 days and a rash (mini measles); we had to give her Calpol with Nurofen for Children at 2 hour intervals to keep her temperature down, and lots of tepid baths and stripping and sponging. She slowly got better and was fine :)
I hope that's reassuring, it's supposed to be anyway!

Fever 4-7 days after MMR is common.

Not sure about vomiting, but could be just because she's under the weather.

Thank you Sazisi, it is, I know I tend to over react a bit, I should also keep away from Google when it comes to illness and medicine!

She's just so unwell, she won't eat much, she'll hardly drink, it's always worrying when they're poorly :(

I wondered weather she may have a little bug Winnybella, I know she had a temp last time, but no sickness x

Hard to say, really. She could have a fever from MMR, which is normal plus a stomach bug.

In any case, I think allergic rections happen much sooner after injection.

DD, for example had diarrhoea few days after 2 sets of DPT- doctor said it wasn't because of vaccine but then I found in the vac notice that it can be one of the rarer of side effects.

I would think it's just a reaction to MMR and she should get better in a couple of days.

Thank you for replying :)

Sickness and diarrhoea aren't usual side effects of MMR - a temperature, rash and feeling grotty are more common, especially 5-14 days later.

She may well have a coincidental bug, poor thing. Don't worry too much if she won't eat, and maybe offer ice pops, milkshakes and whatever fluids she'll drink even if you wouldn't normally let her have it.

If she isn't weeing then see the doc, but hopefully she'll be over it soon Smile

Thank you ladies.

I noticed tonight that her nappy wasn't very wet, I'm going to persevere with water and if no improvement, maybe see the doctor tomorrow..
