Leaving time for digestion before bedtime?

How long should you leave between dinner for a preschooler and bedtime? I have heard other parents talking about their kids having time for their "dinner to go down". It's not really something we do in this house Confused

Should we be?

DS (4) usually eats with us anytime from 6 - 7 and is sometimes in bed about half an hour after we finish eating, but the earlier we eat, the longer time before he goes to bed.

All parents do things differently. I would persoally leave at least 2hrs after a main meal but less time if it's light snack or supper.
My ds is at full time school so has school dinner at 12-12.30pm and is ready for evening meal btw 4-5pm and he has supper btw 8-8.30pm about 30mins before bedtime.
