Just wondered if anyone could help - my 19mth old is fine in the day, goes to bed fine but then wakes up with hacking chesty cough about midnight and she can't sleep with it even though she is exhausted. She is up for a couple of hours, during which time the cough calms down and she eventually conks out again.

DH has had horrid cough and flu symptoms and has only just got over it and has been off work for a week. So I think its this she has a version of, but she is fine in the day and full of beans.

Lying down is definitely a trigger - DHs cough was worse at night.

What is the best thing to do? Many thanks! Are any of the cough medicines particulalry good?

Look up Post-Nasal Drip. It's horrible. Basically, you're nose drips down the back of your throat when you're lying down and triggers the cough reflex.

Any treatment for dry cough should help, although you are obviously a bit limited with a 19 month old - ask a pharmacist and specifically mention the PND.
