DD passing water from bowel

LilRedWG · 22/01/2011 16:34

DD is 4.8 and suffers with chronic constipation, which is treated with Movicol, Lactulose and Senna.

This morning she passed a good size stool, painlessly :,) but as the day has gone on she has been passing a lot of wind and each time has passed a water-like substance, not mucusy at all. It's enough to wet through her pants and leggings but not a massive amount. Does anyone have any experience of this? I don't want to call NHSDirect unnecessarily but I likewise do not want to send DD to school on Monday if this is still happening.

Thanks in advance,

LilRedWG

I would definitely call NHS direct, if there is no out of hours gp available

LilRedWG · 22/01/2011 16:40

She's not in any pain and other than a runny nose is not unwell in herself.

really, though, if she is passing water from her bowels, I would be wondering why? Does she have laxatives from the GP? Surely not normal for a child to regularly need laxatives. Also I imagine this is upsetting for her.

LilRedWG · 22/01/2011 16:57

Yes, the laxatives are doctor prescribed and monitored. The has been on them for almost four years now. I agree, not ideal, but that's the way things are at the moment. It doesn't upset her - she knows no different.

16 hrs??? How bizzarre.
You can by pass fluid but normally only if an impacted stool is in the bowel, even tho she did a poo could there be more up higher ie has she not been for days?Is the fluid stained (poo colour)or clear?

mankymummymoo · 22/01/2011 17:16

Are you sure its not her bladder leaking when she passes wind?

LilRedWG · 22/01/2011 17:18

We thought about an impaction too, but she passed a stool at school yesterday and has absolutely no pain at all. Before that it had been a couple of days, but the past weeks she has got so much better, passing stools easily and on the whole painlessly.

The fluid is totally clear, very strange.

No manky, from the position it is definitely her bowel, plus she says she's had a, "wet trump" so is clear where it's coming from.

nothing to add really, except hope she's ok ! is it definitely water not mucus?

LilRedWG · 22/01/2011 17:21

Not overly suprised at the 16 hours to be honest. They are inundated with people with a cold flu at the moment and DD is not unwell in herself.

To be fair, DH has been doing toilet duties as I'm pretty immobile at the moment. He has said it is definitely not mucusy at all just water with the occassional fleck of poo in. Am confused.
