HEALED!! Sad

Despite 6 treatments with silver nitrate (which has done bugger all), it still bleeds. I doesn't cause him any discomfort but it look unsightly and stains his vests. I can't put him in trousers as it makes the bleeding much worse, which up till now hasn't been an issue as I'm not one for baby outfits and he's spent the time in rompers and the like but I've been to the shops today and it seems there's very little in that style'o'thing once they hit the year mark.

Do I just have to keep going with the sn, it's a major pain to get an appointment with the doctors but she gave me the stick last time and I'm wondering if it was a hint to do it myself - bad idea or not? Or should I ask if there's something else that could be done?

Has he been diagnosed with something called an Umbilical Granuloma?

My DD had this and it took longer than average to heal but not up to 1 year old. No advice, sorry, as I don't know alot about the silver nitrate.

I would ask for a referral to a paediatrician. It needs proper investigation.

Thanks ladies. The doctor has been pretty blasé about it, in fact it took me three appointments before they would even start treating it.

I haven't been given a specific diagnosis but it's like a raw nodule, about the size of the tip of a little finger (child's). I may be wrong but I just think that if the silver nitrate was going to work, it would have done already. I guess I'm just going to have to push my GP on this one aren't I? Bums! Right, off to google Umbilical Granuloma.

Sounds like a UG to me. Definitely push your GP for a referral. At 1yo this should be well and truly healed.

Yup, just looked at the pics on google and its defiantly a UG - I think it may need to be surgically removed, glum! Sad

At least you know what you're dealing with though and you have info for the chat with GP.

Do let us know how it goes :) DD's healed really quick but had infection after infection so I know how you feel.
