Chicken pox questions (DD and pg me)

Apologies for the numpty questions. DD is nearly 3 and this is the first proper illness we've had. I'm fairly sure she has chicken pox but I don't really know much about it.

I know she has to stay off nursery etc, I remember a very heated thread here recently discussing the risks of chicken pox to people with other issues so I know not to take her out. How long, roughly, does it last as I need to make childcare arrangements and also, does she need to see a doctor or is it left to me to diagnose?

Lastly, I've had it as a child but am 9 weeks pg. Is there any risk to me?

Sorry, told you I was a numpty Blush

I would call your gp/mw with respect to whether or not there is a risk to you. I think if you have already had it then it is ok.
DD1 had suspected CP when I was 6 weeks pg with dd2. I didn't think i had had it so they gave me a blood test and said I was immune so the baby would be fine.

I think you need to keep your dd in for a week after the last spots appear.

she will be infectious until the blisters scab over which is normally 5-7 days from when they start appearing. You and your baby should be ok as you have had cp before

p.s. I called the doctor and got it put on the notes that they had CP but never actually took them to the doctor

Great, thanks all. I dont realise how clueless I am about these things until I come across them Blush
