Red Spots for Days but Seems OK in Himself

My DS has red spots now pretty much all over his forehead, head, trunk and even his penis. It started on Monday, but he does not appear to be ill at all. Although obviously a bit itchy. The nursery did not seem concerned. We stayed in today, in case he has some infectious disease. He definitely has a terrible case of cabin fever.
What are these spots?

what do they look like? Flat, raised, fluid filled?
We have Chicken pox here, which is as you describe location wise but starting out little red dots, then becoming filled with yellow pus like fluid, then scabbing over. HTH
