Can anyone help? DD (4) had what I think were hives a couple of times as a baby and they just went away of their own accord. She woke up yesterday with again what I think are hives - red, raised blotches, hot to the touch, randomly all over her body. TBH I just though 'oh it's hives' and left them to go away as they weren't bothering her all that much.
Then this morning she woke up with her face all swollen up (particularly a swollen lip and eye). A phone call to NHS direct 'reassured' me that it was probably an allergic reaction and have been giving her Piriton all day and the swelling has gone right down (though not quite disappeared). We don't know what caused it as we can't identify anything new in diet etc. She is on antibiotics for an ear infection (which seems to have gone) but started these on Thurs so it seems a bit late for a reaction to them). She's also had a virus recently (last few weeks on and off).
Reading about hives online though, it says that the blotches should vanish in a few hours (possibly to be replaced by others). It's hard to keep track of them but I think rather than vanishing they have sort of calmed down - i.e. got less red and no longer hot to touch and with whitish centres with a red ring around them. Does this still sound like hives to you? Or could it be something else?
It sounds horrible but I really need to try to take her to nursery tomorrow as have several urgent deadlines to meet at work. Is this horribly selfish?
i.e. do you think she needs to be at home/ other children need protecting??!!
Any ideas/experiences welcomed!
