Hi, DS almost 5 has a stinking cold and chesty cough, although he looks washed out and is snotty he is absolutely fine in himself and has bags of energy, But the cold has caused some hearing loss and we are having to raise our voices to get him to hear us.

I will be taking him to the doctors first thing on monday but is there anything we can do in the meantime to help him?

TIA. :)

Did you try a hotwater bottle/wheat bag on the ear?

Not sure if it helps the ears but I find when ds is bad with his chest (he gets it in the ears too), it helps to see in the bathroom with the shower on as the steam decongests him a bit. I'm guessing this could help because it's the mucus hurting your ds's ears? Also, vapour rub on feet with socks on overnight is very good.

Will you actually be able to get to the Drs before Wednesday? I'd have thought they'd be closed because of bank holidays?

If you don't have a hottie or a wheat bag, I've used a sturdy plastic bottle, such as a coke bottle, for this. Water should obviously be not so hot as to scald.
