DD who is 11 months walked into a rable at dinnertime and hit the front of her head. Immediatly a blue pea sized lump came up and stayed for around an hour, the lump then went but she has a bright blue bruise and you can see her vein from the bottom of it.

I would not be worried but dd has a blood vessel condition and is on asprin to thin her blood and nifedipine to open blood vessels. I just thought it was a bit weird it going immediatly blue and hard lump. Is this the norm if bump head, I can remember dd1 coming up in a big lump but never a pea like lump.

NOrmally I would say no she's fine but with everything esle you have going on I would get it checked it out.

Like Northern, I wouldn't feel fit to advise if a child has an additional condition to consider. Because while it's normal for a lump to appear, I can't tell you what is normal for a child on drugs and with a known condition. I'd get it checked tbh.

I would at least phone your OOH for advice. Its probably a case of nothing to worry about but worth checking even if just for your peace of mind

agree with all the other posters. Blue eggs are common with a head bump, it happened to DS when he was about 6 months, rolled off the bed, enormous blue and red egg popped up. Without any other factors, I called the GP for a bit of advice, so I would say, talk to your OOH at least.

I am sure she is ok, wishing you both well x

I'd call dr :) I hope she's alright.
Ds bumps his head all the time and I've never seen a pea sized lump bit it could be perfectly normal.

mummytopebs · 20/12/2010 20:26

GrizzlyMacDuff how long did the lump stay for? I will ring ooh just to check because I am unsure how her being on asprin would affect head injuries re bleeding

It stayed quite large for a couple of hours in total, it came up immediately and huge, and stayed like that for probably about 1 hour, then slowly reduced, but was left with a lump for, i can't remember, probably a day or so, and then afterwards a horrid ugly bruise for days and days. Poor boy, i felt like SUCH a terrible mother, and posted on MN about it to get advice as I panicked!

GP told me to look out for a few signs, like not being able to rouse from a normal sleep easily, but i can't recall off the top of my head so definitely call even if just to get a comprehensive list, and as you say aspirin may affect reactions to bumps/visible signs differently than babies who don't take it.

I guess, with the lump starpat it is how the head is hit. DS smacked his on the corner of a wooden ledge that goes around our bed as he fell, so the lump was as a result of a corner impact, perhaps same as walking into a table? But often DS gets just a bruise, or red mark, and yes lots of them!
