17 week old not had a poo since Friday morning - Help!

My ds is 17 weeks old and combine fed breast and bottle. He was exclusively breast fed until 3 weeks ago when a) he started waking more in the night and going (much) less time between feeds and b) I took our dd (4yrs) to see the ballet and left ds at home with dh. Since last saturday ds has woken twice in night compaired to normal 0 -1 times and has not settled as well as normal, then on Friday he had massive hard poo and nothing since. This is coupled with not settling at all over night and only taking the max of 5 ounces in a bottle feed or a small breast feed which he fiddles his way through :(
He is a big baby ( in his 6-9 month clothes already) and generally settled and happy. Since this awful constipation he's been grizzly and really unsettled.
I have no idea how to help him. I've been giving him cooled boiled water, he has breast feeds from bed time (8pm), if he wakes in night and first thing in morning - but he's not even interested in tht at the mo' - not surprising really as he probably has no where to put it!
Would really appreciate any advice on how to unblock him.

Not pooing since Friday in itself is not a big problem. But it sounds like Fridays poo was hard and tricky.

I would have a chat with the pharmacist about maybe starting some medicine like lactulose and continue offering the extra cool boiled water, try some gentle stroking/massage of his tummy and nice warm baths.

I would also give calpol or ibuprofen if he seems in pain with it. Hope it resolves soonSmile

you can get baby glycerin supporsitories from the pharmacist. Explosive but effective - and at least any distress is over with quite quickly

definitely get started with some lactulose as well and keep on it until things have settled down

If the formula is causing constipation can you not just cut it out and go back to fully bf? Even if you want to express so your DH can still give a bottle if he has to. Just a thought... Suppositries etc sound a bit drastic when you know what it is that is causing it.
