4 (almost 5) year old has had a dry cough for almost a week. She is coughing in the morning and in the evening but it is not waking her up at night.
She is currently doing some ballerina moves in my slippers Hmm and is chatting away.
So she is ok isn't she?
I'm not good with coughs/chest stuff due to losing a dd through complications from a chest infection so can you humour me please while I jump every time she coughs :(?
I realise I am being irrational but better to freak out here than in RL.

I'm sorry to hear this CW Sad

she is fine

really, she is fine!

You poor thing.

BeenBeta · 19/12/2010 19:11

I'm sure she is fine. There are a lot of coughs about at the moment. Understandable you are so worried though in the circumstances.

Piriton is what we use for dry coughs. It was recommended by a very good GP a few years ago and it works a treat. It is a hayfever allergy remedy but it stops the tickle cough response in the brain. Helps them sleep too.

It is very good for stopping the coughing at night. I used it on DS2 last night.

Thankyou both of you. I will get some Piriton in tomorrow.
She is still coughing and dancing Grin.

If she is really bad and you have no Pirton we have found childrens Ibuprofen is also good at calming a cough.

Not to be used continuoulsy or often of course but for tonight only and at the correct dose for her age it would do no harm.

bubbleymummy · 19/12/2010 19:42

Manuka honey is great for coughs and is antibacterial as well.

I can totally understand why you are so worried but if she's dancing around in your slippers I'm sure she's fine :)

CharlieBoo · 19/12/2010 19:49

Second the manuka honey, its great stuff.

She honestly sounds fine, can totally understand why you would be freaking out....

Hope she's better soon.

TheUnmentioned · 19/12/2010 21:24

She sounds ok. Really.

last time i had a chest infection I could not move for love nor money, going to the loo was a major life event.
