Swine Flu - How do I know if my 3 yo has it?

She has fever, fatigue, tells me she has sore throat, sleeps more than usual or is listless, loss of appetite. Blood shot eyes.
We don't know if she has headaches but she's breathing more quickly.
I know it's flu, but how do I know if it's swine?
And if it is swine, how long will it last?

High fever (over 38.5?)

You probably won't find out - the only difference appears to be an aversion to eating and nausea/vomiting/the squits in swine flu.

Sorry, pressed post too soon, it'll last about five days. Treat the fever, let her rest, if breathing becomes laboured or wheezy seek medical help. Keep fluids up.

Treatment is the same whichever it is anyway so it doesn't make much difference which she has.

if it came on very suddenly it is probably flu, but as both seasonal flu and swine flu are doing the rounds at the moment, you cannot tell the difference unless you do a test (which will only be done in hospital situations as it*s expensive).
it can be "just" a cold as well, unpleasant but not as severe as a flu.
when ds had swine flu last year it started very suddenly, from running around happy as a larry to 40 fever in half an hour...

i think the only guaranteed way to find out is if she is swabbed and it's sent off to lab

think they're unlikely to do that, so just treat as flu

Yes. Definitely flu, not convinced it's swine, buy guess it doesn't matter?
