hi my 14month old had bronchiolitis last christmas and was in hospital for 9 days and was very ill, since then he has had chest infections and now has brown and blue inhalers. on saturday he had a temp of 39.8 i took him to a and e and doc said it was an ear infection, the rest of the day he just drowsed, he had a snotty nose, now he has a really bad cough-i took him again yesterady and the doctor said he might also have a chest infection- he is now on amoxycilin. i am so worried-he is currently asleep on me ater a terrible night of coughing and being sick from coughing and i am constanly counting his breathing rate-he is asleep at the moment and its 50- i am sure its normally 32. should i ring the doctors again. could it be bronchiolitis again? he has had a reluctant breastfeed earlier so is not dehydrated and i dont think he has a fever. i think i'll ring- best to be neurotic?

Bronchi is uncommon in children over 1.

Your Ds sounds very similar to my Ds who had bronchi twice when younger, he is now 13 months and is now recovering from another chest infection they thought it could be bronchi again but he tested RSV negative. He still had to spend 5 days in hospital though.

I would get him checked out. Other than breathing fast is his breathing ok? (no recession, drag or laboured breathing?)

Hope he is ok

hi i woke him up, stripped his clothes off him and his breathing rate is fairly ok now- rang doctor and explained she thinks he is ok- he has just had a nose bleed now. i feel so sorry for him- my parents came to check on him and he acted well for them- as soon as they went he was ill again!!

hi
My DS1 had bronchiolitis when he was 4 months old (we spent Millenium Eve in hospital with him!).
I was given a really useful piece of information by a doctor when he was recovering. He told me not to be suprised if for the next few years he would have a weaker chest than maybe he would have done had he not had the bronchiolitis, and that he might be more likely for a few years to have more chest infections or have worse symptoms.

This was true and he did have various bouts, including a couple of other admissions to hospital in the year following. Gradually he did get stronger in his chest though and now he is 11 and I can't remember the last time he had a bad cold or chest. Years ago.

thank you everyone- he seems to have picked up a bit. his breathing rate keeps going fast but does return to about 35-i do think it relates to his temperature and how long ago he had his calpol etc.
yes- he had query bronchilitis at 4 weeks, rsv positive at 9 weeks then 7 chest infections in 6 months- he seems to have been going ok on the brown and blue inhler combination-but it could have just been the good weather. This is the worst he has been since june but he is stronger and has bigger tubes etc. its just so stressful especially as last christmas he was in hopsital and very very poorly.
