Day 6 for dd with flu, never been ill for so long?

I myself was down for 3 1/2 days with the bug and have been left with a nasty cold.

When should I start to worry dd(9) temperature is up a down, sleeping most of the time (most unlike her) had each ache (getting better) and a cough again getting better . Thought yesterday things were looking up dd was off the sofa playing cards. Only slept a few hours in the day. Then by about 6 she was asleep again and within a hour she was feverish again.

Slept from 7-7 last night. Had a tiny breakfast (has been eating nothing, again so unlike her), by 9 she was asleep again and still is now.

speak to your GP service and ask their advice. AFter 6 days with a temp, I would be seeking medical advice TBH. Infection may be on her chest.

Sorry it's not been a constant temp, it's up and down. Never been really high but it's very rare for dd to get a tempture when she's ill.

Unlike my sister little one who's high tempture will be the first sign of any illness.

The coughs calmed right down now, so no more ventolin. She has pulled something so the coughing hurts now instead.

lex - I'd be concerned that the coughing hurts. She may not have a pulled a muscle, could be an infection or pleurisy. Get her seen.

lexcat · 11/12/2010 13:29

I myself was have been watching out for infection but she's not really coughing phlegm and when she has it's clear.

As for getting her seen by anyone that's a problem been the weekend.

Ring up the out-of-hours service and explain the whole 6 days to them. They might ask you to bring her in.

and keep her fluids up - a child can last a surprisingly long time with only warm ribena!

My son has had this his lasted 6 days he was really complaining of sore legs and would not walk at all- doc said viral things can take up to a week- he has bounced back as quickly as he went down. I had never seen him so ill and sleep so much, still has the cough but now just at night

Hassledge · 11/12/2010 18:22

Swine Flu? It is back, according to BBC news this morning. Poor girl - hope she's better soon.

JingleBelleDameSansMerci · 11/12/2010 18:28

Hassledge, I was just going to say that. It is back. There have been hospitalisations again. Although the media aren't all over it this year, it's still with us.

Elibean · 11/12/2010 18:32

dd had something similar in the summer - then I did. Neither of us given to temps, both had temps up/down for about a week - I think I'd give it another day anyway, even if it wasn't the weekend, tbh. Unless her cough gets worse, or temp goes and stays up, of course. Flu/flu-like viruses are exhausting - it sounds pretty normal to me that she's sleeping a lot.

Thanks for everyones support, after waking yesterday aftnoon dd was much happier. Spent the rest of the day on the sofa awake and was even asking for food.

Took sometime to settle as her cough stared up again but finally did. Just got up saying "I'm tired but feeling must better". Only time will tell.
