2 year old with a sore penis :(

My ds had a vile nappy when we got up this morning, the type that requires hosing down in the shower and binning of baby gro etc. He wasn't crying so I don't know how long he'd been in it.

The whole area was red but has improved over the day except for his penis which is swollen and sore looking with what appears to be a crack on the underside of it, I'm trying to use cream but he screams when I touch it:( he's had a warm salty bath. Is there anything else I can do ? It looks infected and pussey. I'm waiting for a call back from the ooh dr.

Can little boys get willy infections or is it 'just' nappy rash ? He's in agony :(

I've used sudacrem on my DS's willy but to be fair its never been as bad as what you are describing, poor boy.
That said, if it was caused by this mornings poo then I would think its too soon to be infected and is probably just (very) irritated. Can you give him some nappy free time (sit on a towel and watch telly) to get some air to it? Other than that I think you're doing everything you can, hope doc rings you soon.

Drs going to ring back within 2 hours so hopefully it won't be too long. You're porbably right about it being too soon to be infected but it just seems so sore :(

It's making me wince and I haven't even got a willy :(

My DS had a willy infection recently, it was very obviously swollen and red and he was uncomfortable. Phoned NHS Direct and they had a 6 hour return call time!!! Managed to get an OOH Dr appt and they gave him anti-Bs straight away. Took couple of days for swelling to go down, and he was uncomfortable sleeping (usually sleeps on his front).

Don't know what caused it, though he is a prolific poo-er and can go 3-4 times a day. He just woke up one morning and it was like that - not even in a dirty nappy. I worry now about being able to keep his bits clean enough.

Hope he is feeling better soon. Poor lad.

The drs just rang and the appointment is at 6. She said that maybe some poo had got under his foreskin and that's what had caused some irritation/infection it but it could just be nappy rash.

with swelling and discharge, it could well be an infection. very common and easily treated.

Sounds like an infection - very easily treated with anti b's.

DS gets an slightly inflamed penis sometimes - esp when he used to wet the bed. I find "wound wash" is excellent to avert trouble at the first sign of redness. It is mildly antiseptic but does sting and can be sprayed on to area so easy to apply.

Well after several slatherings of metanium and a couple of salty baths it's looking a lot better so I cancelled the appointment. I don't think it's infected just sore from the poo. leaving the nappy off seems to have dried it out quite a lot and the swelling has gone down. It still looks sore but not as bad as earlier on.

I'll get up in the night to check his nappy i think, he's had a couple of stinkers today. We had curry for tea last night, I think thats what's done it.
