Hi, my daughter suffers from constipation. She has done most of her life. She's 5.8.
She is constantly messing herself at home but holds it at school. Today she messed herself at school and she's been complaining of a tummy ache and pain when she tries to go. There are small amouts of diarrhea being passed, possibly over flow due to blockage?
I've just cleaned her up now and there was blood in it. Bright red, so not internal.
I'm a bit concerned as this hasn't happened before. I'm keeping her up later as I think she has more to come and don't want her doing it in bed.
Should I take her to the Dr's tomorrow? Or is this quite normal?

Thanks.

Im a nurse def sounds like overflow, which laxatives is she on? If she still has tummy ache I'd ring oohs and see what they suggest.

She's on Movicol, 1 sashet every other day.

She's asleep now. We'll keep checking her in the night to make sure she hasn't done any more.

Should I take her to the docs or see how she goes?

I think I would take her to the GP, she may have a tiny tear, - they are quite common in children if they suffer from constipation. And the GP will be able to give you something to help it heal.

You def need to increase how much movicol she is taking minimum one a day, my guess is the gp will say increase to 2-3 sachets a day until she is regular.

thanks, last time she took it it gave her the runs when it was every day, so the one every other day worked very well. This time it dosn't seem to be working.

I'll start with one a day and see what difference it makes, then I can increase it if needs be. Smile
