I know there isn't much I can give him, and he hasn't got a temp, but he is under the weather. He isn't sleeping properly and gets upset when he has coughing fit, I think his throat is sore.

Should I give Calpol to help his throat pain at least?

Thanks

I would, because if I feel rotten I also take a paracetamol so I do the same with my dd. Also, try to raise his head (legs of bed raised or firm pillow),and sips of water/chamomile tea (lukewarm) if he wakes and is distressed. I let my dd listen to audio CDs in these situations seems to calm her down or sing a lullaby yourself or read a story. I have also find that a warm mist humidifier helps and if he has a cold, saline nose drops (such as Sterimar) to prevent snot blocking throat or going to ear canal causing ear infection. If fever develops I would get him checked by GP for chest/throat/ear infection. Good luck, hope he gets better soon.

thanks dikkertjedap, i was thinking the same. he actually slept ok last night, although he was coughing a bit.

unfortunately, we aren't onto the water/tea drink yet, as he is still being BF'ed twice a night and that is the quickest way to get him back off to sleep. we were trying to cut the night feeding down, but we'll wait until he is 100% again.

i hadn't heard of saline nose drops, i'll get some, as he is gagging a bit occasionally (not whilst eating) and he is very snotty. he does seem OK in himself when he isn't coughing his hacky cough.

thanks for posting.
