Tonsillitis in 7 month old

Hi,

My DD hasn't really been herself these past few days so I finally took her to see the GP today. She's been diagnosed with tonsillitis and given Amoxicillin oral suspension to take 3 times a day. My only concern is that she has a rash all over her tummy and back. The GP said a rash is common with a viral infection but she doesn't have a fever and everything I've read online doesn't list a rash as a symptom of tonsillitis.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

Many Thanks in advance!!

From your post I take it the rash was already there before the amoxicillin?

Rash is common with viral infections in children. Tonsillitis can be bacterial or viral. Your GP must suspect it is bacterial in your dd's case hence the antibiotics. It could be that she first got a cold type virus and then got a secondary tonsillitis. Secondary infections with bacteria are relatively common after a viral infection because the viral infection triggers the production of mucus which is then a nice sticky environment for bacteria to live in.

your GP must have been happy the rash was not serious at the time of the appointment but do you know about the glass test for future checks or if any changes?

I always get a rash with tonsilitis as do dd and ds. There's a certain bacteria (is it strep a or something like that?) that can cause a rash apparently.

Would follow the advice below re glass test.
