Is there anything like Imodium for children?

My 2 1/2 year old son was sent home from nursery on Wedneday as he has had 2 "lose" poos which means he is excluded for 48 hours. He is fine in himself but has complained very intermittently of a tummy ache. I know that if I take him to doctor they will just say to do what I am doing - no milk, dry food etc. It does seem a bt silly that he cannot go to nursery due to lose poo. He does not have diarrhoea and is not going any more frequently than he usually does. Is there anything like children's imodium that you can get? I really don't want him sat out for another week if at all possible if he is not ill. Thank you.

If he's got tummyache & loose poo then is ill & so does need to be off nursery, no?

You need to let the illness pass through him. You don't want to 'trap it' inside him. And a few days off nursery are a good idea. He is under the weather, albeit mildly.

You can give him normal food, just avoid dairy. Plenty of fluids and hopefully he'll be right as rain in no time.

wel it has been 5 days now doing the above and seems no improvement and I know doctor wil do nothing until about 2 weeks.

dioralyte doesn't stop them up but helps by replacing lost salts. PLain white rice good for getting back on track.

My DS had loose stools a little while back. He is a lot older though, so he was able to have a small amount of imodum (quarter of a tab) but it only stopped poos coming altogether and he ended up getting bad cramps. He too was fine in himself.

However, after having left a stool sample at the docs, it turned out that he had samlonellaosis; a strain of salmonella. He had severe runny poo for a fortnight and suffered slight dehydration (dioralyte fixed it.)

Therefore I would stay away from nursery, and get him to docs and get a sample in.

I thought it was just a case of the runs, turns out my DS was a lot worse than I thought and was actually suffering quite bad

If this has been dragging on, go to the GP to rule out anything serious (like ThighsWideShitItsAGhost's DS ) Assuming the GP rules this out, it's possible that a bug has upset his system.

You can try something like a actimel (pro-biotic yogurt drink that was very effective for DS1 in the same situation). Also, I find bananas, rice and eggs are good for bunging up. Try to reduce the amount of roughage in his diet and cut down on fruit and veg for a few days.

Also, google 'toddler diarrhoea',and see if this describes your DS.
