Ringworm and Daktarin 2%

I went to the pharmacist on Tuesday because my son who's 8 months had a small (1 cm diameter) circular patch on his cheek that was reddish and a bit dry looking with a defined edge. I thought it looked fungal and the pharmacist said so too - he gave me Daktarin 2% to put on twice a day.

The next morning I thought I could see three more similar patches on the same side so I applied the cream to all of them. THEN I though I could see a round patch on the opposite cheek and I put some there too...

Now it seems to be dry and scaly all over the lower part of both cheeks and I'm wondering if maybe the cream is drying his skin out/making it all red and dry and I really can't tell if it is the ringworm spreading or if he's just having a reaction to the treatment.

I don't know what to do.

I rang the GP after I saw the pharmacist (couldn't get an appt) who said to use the cream for a week and if it was no better to come in. I don't know if I want to keep using it until Tuesday.

If anyone has got any advice or experience of this I'd be really grateful to hear it.

Daktarin is an anti fungal in an aqueous type cream (i.e. the type that is often used as a moisturiser) so should not be drying his skin out. There are some extra things in the ceam (presevatives etc) that could be irritating the skin though. Ring worm is also very easily spread, does the new rash look the same as the old one?

Thanks very much for your reply. No, the new bit isn't circular, it's more dry and patchy all over his cheeks. Also there's sort of a fat streak of really red skin to the side and under his mouth on the same side as the original circle (which doesn't look any different after nearly a week of treatment).

Have been today - she thought it looked like eczema so have Aveeno to apply 4 times a day and Aqueous cream to wash with. Have an appointment for a weeks time to see how its doing but I think it is looking better already.
