I'm feeling ill - scared baby will get ill

I'm feeling really rough today. I think it is just a bug/severe cold but I have fever, cold sweats, sore throat, runny nose.

I have a two-month old DS and am really scared he will catch it (I breastfeed). It would be his first illness. Can anyone tell me in advance how to deal with poorly two-month old as I have no idea. Will he feed more if he is ill? Can I give calpol? Thank you!

He is too young for calpol, but as you develop the antibodies to fight off the infection they will be passed to him in your breast milk...I think. Try not to panic he might not get it at all. Keep washing your hands etc, being extra careful. If he catches it, do you have a ear thermometer, if not can someone pop out and get you one. Then you will be able to monitor his temperature. Keep feeding him regularly.
I hope you are feeling better soon.

He's getting all your antibodies as your body fights it so even if he does get ill it might just be mild.

You may want to get some Karvol/Vicks drops to put in the room if you're both bunged up to help you breathe more easily.

Feeding with a cold can take longer as they need to have loads of rests if nose blocked. I was knackered, i remember, so try to get some early nights yourself!!

And you can take paracetamol so take some, sounds like you need it.

He may well not get it, but if he does if his nose gets blocked he will find it difficult to feed. You can get saline drops which really help with that.
