Hi, Newbie on here and am really hoping someone can help. My 3 year old son screams in pain when he eats, not every time he eats, and not contained to specific foods. He says it really hurts his tongue, have been to docs and they said coundnt see anything, went to dentist this afternoon and he also said nothing wrong then come home have tea and he is screaming that it hurts his tongue to eat. If it was just dinner it might be him putting it on but even did it over a kit-kat his nan gave him yesterday! I have no idea what to do - have looked in his mouth myself and cant see anything different to normal??

Is he remembering a time when maybe he ate something a bit hot and so is fearful of it happening again.

It could be he enjoys the attention he receives when he complains.

Maybe some foods just feel different in the mouth and he doesn't like the sensation.

If there really is nothing wrong then persevere.....offer him food as normal but do not react to his complaints.

That's what I thought but it can be anything from pasta to chocolate! And him not eating half a chocolate is unheard of :) thanks for you reply will try not to react and see if that stops him.

Could he have burnt his tongue? How long has he being doing it?

This sounds really daft, but I hurt my tongue yesterday when eating some Haribo - they were the sour ones and were really really sour. My tongue has been sore since then, bit better today. Could he have eaten something acidic?

Dh is sensitive to some fruit when eaten raw and some nuts. It makes his tongue all itchy and uncomfortabele. (not painful as such but he is not 3 anymoreSmile) maybe your Ds has a similar sensitivity to other foods?

The only time my ds did this it was the start of hand foot and mouth. We couldn't see anything to begin with but then his Tongue came up in lots of little blisters.
