DS has been unwell since yesterday morning. Throwing up all day yesterday and again this morning. No food for nearly 48 hours and just some water. He has a temperature too.
he is 5.
He just said to me that he thinks he is dying Sad
Any advice? Should I try him on some food?

Don't worry about food - unless he asks for it. You need to keep him hydrated so give tiny sips of water so he can keep them down. How is he other than the vomitting? Does he seem himself?

Three of my dc have had a similar bug this week.

DD 16 months started with it on Saturday when she was throwing up and has had a very gripey tummy too, she was very clingy and pasty and just wanted cuddling -but today she is like a new child and full of beans.

DD's -9 & 7 seemed to have the same bug and the 7 year old was in agony with her tummy.
They are both ok now but 9 year old looks run down.

I just kept calpol up and fluids didn't worry about food unless they asked for it.

Keep an eye on him tonight and if no better tomorrow I would go and check it out with GP but I bet it is just an awful virus.

Hope he recovers soon :(.

my daughter too. I was checking on here to see if anyone else was going past the 48hr mark with no food kept down. I think she turned a corner this evening though and seems to have kept a little bread down. She had terrible tummy pains with it too...and bizarrely very very red cheeks without much of a temp to explain them.

Update, I phoned NHS 24 and they told me to take him to the Out of Hours Clinic. Nurse did checks and they checked his wee. They think he has a urinary tract infection and this would be causing the vomiting. He has an antibiotic to take. Unfortunately it smells and tastes horrible to him so that is going to be a struggle.

How is he this morning?

aleene · 15/10/2010 21:42

He is much better thanks. Not managed to get much of the antibiotic down him but he seems to be back to himself. Thanks for asking Smile
