dd is 6 and has had a cough for more than a week now. She is constantly tryign to clear her throat and says it is sore :( I've been ill over the weekend with a cold and cough, and have felt pretty awful tbh. The problem is, I know dd won't tell me just how ill she feels because she loves school and doens't want to miss a day. So is there actually anythign I can do? Is a cough even a reason to stay at home?

No I dont think they need to stay off for a cough.
If my dd stayed off school for every cough she has,she would miss half the term.
Hope you all feel better soon. There is loads going around at the moment.

I know, so many people are ill. I'm sat here with cold sweats feeling dreadful. It worries me that she seems to be gasping for breath though. I guess I'll see how she is in the morning and call school if in doubt. It does sound ludicrous that I'm even considering keepign her off for a cough, I guess it's just because I'm already ill I worry that she could be about to be too iyswim

Cough for more than a week- I would see a GP to make sure it isn't bronchitis or similar.

Homemade cough remedy- slice an onion, add a few tablespoons of suger, cover and leave for a few hours. Drink the syrup- a couple tablespoons few times a day. Repeat with fresh onion for a few days. Sounds gross, but kids actually like it and it works.
