DS woke up the other night saying his foot was hurting and itchy and he needed a cold flannel, i duly obliged but thought he was having a bad dream. Tonight I noticed the same toe on each foot was a bit red. when I looked I could see a little cut under the crease and recognise it as athletes foot fromwhen I get bouts of it. Do you think he's caught it from me? Or perhaps the swimming pool or both? Is it ok to use normal over the counter cream? Any tips to stop it recurring (in both of us)

I've had this a lot and it is painful. It is AFAIK, caused by a fungus. I would buy some OTC cream (check with the pharmacist that it is OK for his age). Make sure you wash and dry your feet very carefully, change your socks every day, air your shoes - alternate them if possible.

How old is he?
if its dry use canestan cream if its wet use daktrin or canestan powder. You should also treat the shoes for up to 10 days with the antifungal spray as the fungal spores stay inside the shoes. Dont share towels and use a seperate one for his feet as it can spread elsewhere.

Do all the above and dry his feet with a hair drier after every bath etc, it really gets rid of the moisture, and should help you to get rid of it.

Ds is 4.5. He does change his shoes when he comes in from school but is a mare for letting me dry between his toes. I will give it another go though.

His 3 and 4th toes seem to be red, I'll try caneston tomorrow

dont forget all his shoes and treat for at least a week after it appears to have gone
