No, entirely the opposite in this house. How old is your DC? DD had a friend who was 45kg at the age of 8 which is a lot. Her paediatrician advised cutting down on full fat milk, substituting white bread and pasta and rice for wholemeal, not giving cake (mum was a bit indulgent) and increasing exercise.

Yes, my DS age 9 was over weight last year.

I have done very little with his food intake, other than make the portions slightly smaller.

When he has sweets I put a few in a little bowl so he is having a very small amount.

The main changes I have made are in activity levels.

We go swimming when the flume is open, walking up all the stairs seems very effective.

We play cricket after school, just the two of us.

He has joined several after and before school clubs.

His weight has stayed the same for 18 months but he is much taller and slimmer.

As I had anorexia when I was younger, I was keen to reduce his weight without ever saying anything to him about it.

Depends what you do now TBH. What do they eat as a typical day?

Swapping sugary/calorie laden snacks (cake/biscuits) for healthy ones (fruit/breadsticks/rice cakes)

Bulking out meals with veg & healthy carbs. Like spaghetti bolognaise with lean mince but more veggies chopped in, serve with smaller portion of wholemeal pasta.

Sticking to 3 meals a day with only 2 small snacks. ensure they drink more water than squash/fizzy drinks.

Agree with anna about making it more about exercise though and NOT talking about weight/bad/food too much.
