Red poo in toddler

I have just read other thread about blood in poo.

I wondered if anyone could advise me, slightly different circumstances.

My GDD has burgandy red coloured and very loose stools.

This started about 10 days ago. I advised DD to take her to the GP. He said he is not worried, come back if they turn black.

I wasn't really happy with this and convinced him to test it we are awaiting results.

The stools are burgandy the same colour all over with some mucus. LO had a temperature and cold symptoms a day before this started.

She is also lactose intollerant, don't know if this is could be relevant.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

first of all: I am not a medic, at the same time I could not leave your post go unanswered.

I think you are right in being concerned with your gdd's symptoms. How old is she? You wrote that she has a fever and cold symptoms, in addition to the burgundy stool. Would assume she also has abdominal pains/cramps.

I would keep a very good eye on her and if the situation worsens or she gets any other symptoms I would take her back to GP (or A&E if really bad).

It might be as simple as a tummy bug: my ds2 had a severe attack of gastroenteritis in which he also got the red mucus stools (his looked like red-currant). It turned out to be a rotavirus. He was 7 months old at the time and very poorly.

Hope your gdd improves soon. Make sure she gets enough liquids.

She is two years 4 months.

The fever was a day before the other symptoms started and she now seems perfectly well, apart from the strangely coloured stools and mucus.

I am glad she seems well now, and hope she gets those strange stools out of her system soon too. It must have been a tummy bug.. There seem so many of them about at the moment!

I would not worry too much, it sounds like a tummy bug in which case the stools do change to all sorts of variations of brown. My ds has one at the minute and his stools are very pale.

Thanks all, she has the results of her tests and there is no infection.

They have referred her to dietician at GOSH, as they think it may be an intollerance to soya.
