Mumps

There was a sign at DD's pre school today saying that mumps was doing the rounds. DD is 3.5yo and so has only had the first dose of MMR and is due to have her second next month. I just wondered, will she still have protection having only had the first dose, or will she be at risk of catching it?

TIA

the first dose leaves up to 10% unprotected and the second dose increases the coverage so your lo may very well be ok with the first dose.

At 3,5 she can have the second dose now; esp if mumps are about.

Thanks for the replies.

Thanks for the stats, Seona1973. That's interesting, I didn't know that 90% would get protection from the first dose, so that reassures me a bit more!

LCPO - DD is due to be called up within the next month, but you are right and I might call the clinic and ask them what they recommend now that it is doing the rounds!

Thanks again!
