Balinitis and Circumcision

My poor DS (2yo) has balinitis and after examination by GP they are recommending circumcision.

They asked me to chat to DH about it and come back tomorrow. I know DH will be for it (he was done routinely at birth as he was born in Africa) but I feel so sorry for DS. It's not the same to have it done when you can remember it. And he is so little.

Has anyone else had this?
What is the surgery like?
How long does it take to heal?

My ds suffered from balinitis for about a year when he was 3. They tried every cream under the sun, in the end I taught him to gently pull back his foreskin and wipe the end of his penis after every wee. It went within three days and has never come back. The gp did float the idea of a circumcision, but his foreskin wasn't tight at all, it was just that moisture was getting trapped under the foreskin and that provided the right warm damp environment for nasties to grow.

My son is 5 nearly 6, he has had bright red willy at the tip for over a year and we have tried creams and washing and hasnt worked, i would actually prefer my son to be circumcisied as it will be the end of it then (well hopefully) it has come back again so going to see the GP tonight.

my husband had it done at 8 and said it was horrible so would prefer to do it now then when he is older, dont want this to carry on to adult hood imagine the pain then!

Thanks for the responses ladies.

GP says his foreskin is too tight. I wouldn't know what to look for to be honest because DH is circumcised and that's the only one I've ever seen Blush

Jenna I guess my concern is that it's the same amount of pain either way, and he is probably not going to understand why I'm letting them do it.
