4 year old sticky eye

Hi there, I wonder if anyone can help with this. My dd has always been prone to sticky eyes, ever since a baby. I took her to the doctors when she was younger and they just said to keep wiping it and she would grow out of it. Well she hasn't and I've kind of grown used to it and accept that she gets it from time to time. However, her teacher pulled me up on it this morning and asked what was wrong with it and if it was conjunctivitis, she shouldn't be there. I sort of brazenly said it wasn't and that she gets this from time to time. The whites of her eyes are not red or pink and aren't in any way swollen. The teacher accepted this so I left my dd there. However, I'm now feeling really bad and perhaps I shouldn't have sent her and I'm panicking in case any other children catch anything. But honestly if I kept her off every time she had a gunky eye, she would never be there. I have booked an appointment with the doctor this afternoon just to check and maybe for him to write a letter...but I'm worrying that maybe I was wrong!

Sorry, this doesn't really warrent an answer probably - I'm just waffling!

hi, my ds gets the same problem, usually in the winter time, his eyes are fine and healthy (have recently been checked for other reasons at the hospital)

Thanks for the reply countydurhamlass. I took her to the docs yesterday afternoon but unfortunately when I got there it wasn't our normal doctor (who is brilliant)...it was a doctor who is known for not being great. The long and short of it was he couldn't say what it was and so took a swab to send to the lab. So then I was even more confused about whether I should send her to school but spoke to the head about it and she said to send her in as they haven't diagnosed anything and her eye looks better this morning after a good long sleep last night.
