It's so much easier just to use the ordinary one and leave it in overnight. Use a shower cap and put a towel on the pillow. Remember to use a greasy hair shampoo with no conditioner - baby shampoo in particular is completely useless. I always use the Alberto Balsam tea tree one for getting Hedrin out.

And don't forget to comb as well - I do it in the evening after the Hedrin soak. Telly, chocolate and nit comb. A fun evening for all the family!

Also, don;t forget to comb again on days 3, 5 and 7. The you can relax - until you get them again!

I used it yesterday(I started a thread about head lice too) first time, it will probably be effective, because it is almost impossible to remove, three lots of shampoo and my dd still looks like her hair was dipped in oil - it has also made her eyes sting and they are quite red.

fifitot · 22/09/2010 13:09

Thanks. The reason I don't want to do the overnight one though is that I won't have time to wash it in the morning. Will try the 1 hour one but maybe do the overnight one at the weekend.

Fiveorangepips - will look for your thread.

What a bloody nightmare. I hate them!

ha ha ha ha
i share your pain . ...dd3 has nits , she txt me from school to tell me ...Hmm

AND THE LESSON LEARNED TODAY is never trust a teenager to bonecomb and check their own hair properly !!!!!

i had a lazy weekend where i didnt check the big ones and just combed the little kids in the bath.

FECK .
i will have to check the rest of the tribe too ( 7 of them , )

just bought 2 bottles of 15 min headrin from boots !
£17.99 a bottle Ouch !

oh well , no wine for me this month Sad

droves · 22/09/2010 13:21

think i will go get another nitty gritty comb then dh can help .Grin

DE -LOUSING !...Theres nothing like having a joint hobby with your hubby !

fifitot · 22/09/2010 14:41

You can get a 15 min one??? I didn't know that. Oh well - have applied it and now leaving it for a while. Oh joy.

Good luck I did another wash (lots of shampoo) and condition comb this afternoon, took about an hour - I got 24 eggs, yuck, but no live crawlers.

fatsatsuma · 22/09/2010 19:36

We've just used the Full Marks 10 min one, which is probably v similiar to Hedrin. Agree with pp that it is incredibly hard to get out of the hair - my two girls look like they have really greasy hair now, despite very thorough shampooing.

This better work ,as I'm at my wits' end with headlice. Mine have such thick hair that it takes hours to comb all of them through properly Sad

droves · 22/09/2010 19:53

Just finished the teenagers (girls) , they have thick long hair .
Oldest ones hair is waist length , she had one louse and 3 eggs ,,,,after hours of combing thats all i found!
..the younger one who txt me had 5 big ones ,but no just hatched ones so she must have caught them in the last few days. yuck.
have done the ring round the mums , all but one who never answers her phone , but dd3 always gets lice after she has been with her dd .
IF she doesnt fecking answer tonight , im going round to her house with a bottle of headrin and will tell her to clean her daughters hair. .. . im so sick of this.
It took 4 goes to wash the stuff out !

NEED TO SCRUB THE BATHROOM WITH FAIRY LIQUID TO GET RID OF ALL TRACES OF THE HEDRIN BEFORE DH BREAKS HIS NECK IN THE SHOWER.

seeker · 22/09/2010 19:56

The best way to get hedrin out is to use cheap shampoo - HOT a creamy one - one of the clear sort designed for oily hair. And don't use conitioner.

FiveOrangePips · 22/09/2010 20:20

I am reading this lice programme just now - thinking about trying it.

fifitot · 24/09/2010 14:07

I now have them. Discovered at the hairdressers this morning - I was mortified!

oh no ...poor you fifitot ...Sad

FiveOrangePips · 24/09/2010 18:30

poor you - I have had two condition comb sessions on myself since discovering them and treating my dd - though I haven't found anything yet I am still paranoid.

VivaLeBeaver · 24/09/2010 18:33

Oh no, did the hairdresser send you out mid cut?

fifitot · 27/09/2010 21:48

Sorry for late reply.

Hairdresser cut my hair but then just rough dried it as no point in styling as was going to have to put Hedrin on it right away. Only charged me half price. I know her well so it wasn't too bad but I expect she would have sent me away had I not been such a regular and longstanding customer!

You have to put the shampoo on dry hair - loads of it too - to get it out. It's an awful product. Use the overnight one.
