Can it be lactose intolerance?

My 9 yr old DD has stomach cramps, wind and sometimes diarrhoea. She says her tummy rumbles loads and for the past few days hasn't eating a full meal as she feels full up. Her stomach pains come and go and not there all the time. Shes had this on and off for a couple of months. When I go to book an appt at drs she seems better. Did go once to the dr but said it wasn't serious. She loves school and is a happy girl, she says she isn't worried ( she always tells me when something bothers her). Ive done a bit of research and lactose intolerance and IBS are mentioned. Does anyone think this sounds like an intolerance? Its a bit of a concern as she doesn't like to eat meat as shes an animal lover. Was wondering if anyone who has a child intolerant to food had these symtoms. Thanks

It could be. I am seriously lactose and gluten intolerant. Any at all give me those symtoms. A latte coffe makes me feel like I could burst, feel sick and the 'runs' a few hours later.

You need her to be tested. Any history in your family?

No intolerances but my 7 yr old DD has a citric acid sensitivity but no allergies, she had mild allergies but has grown out of these.

You could experiment by giving her lactofree milk.

It is available in Sainsbury. It has the lactose removed. It may need a bit of sugar in for her as it does not have the sweetness of milk. You can get lactofree yoghurts/cheese too.

The alternative is soya milk but it may taste 'a bit funny' to a child.

Otherwise have her tested for gluten and lactose intolerance.
