Hi there, DD is 3. Has been complaining of a sore bottom today, it looks quite red so have put some sudocrem on. Complained at bedtime still sore, I had another good look and there was what looked like ( I imagine?!) a little worm about an inch long on the red sore bit around her bottom (it was totally out of her bottom). She insists it is sore, not itchy and I am now doubting myself wondering if it was a worm or if it was just a thread or something? Would worms cause a sore bottom and would they be totally out of her bottom? any ideas...thanks!

yes worms come out of the bottom at night to lay eggs. They look like threads. I think you would be best to talk to a pharmacist to get treatment for the whole family.

Oh right, I didn't know that, thanks for the post. It sounds like that's what it was then. I have some ovex in cupboard she is asleep now but will give her it if she wakes up or in morning.

Just another thought, the "worm" was about an inch long, is that normal?

You need to treat the whole family - if one has it, you will all have them. Threadworms are really common, don't worry and yes they can be that long. :)

Thanks for posts, just searched on here and can see what I need to do, wash sheets, bedding. Wash bum in morning, cut nails....oh the joys, making me feel strangely queasy. Poor thing, hope they clear up soon.

I would see GP. I thought that threadworms are much smaller however tapeworm could be an inch as it can come out in segments. Tapeworm needs proper treatment if indeed it is.
