How do i collect a urine sample from my 4mo ds?

Hi, my 4.2 mo old ds is seeing a peadatrician on tues, for reflux, & i need to take a urine sample. I've been given a bottle & something in a sterile packet. I dont want to take it out of its packaging til tues am, what exactly do i do with it. Obv i know you need to collect urine with it, it looks like you put it in his nappy. Any ideas/help? Many thanks.

I had to do this recently with my 2 year old DS. I was puzzled but the nurse explained the very hi-tech method of taking his nappy off and holding it under him til he wees! tricky with a very mobile toddler as I had to watch him closely for nearly an hour, but we got it.

Will it fit in his nappy with his penis in it? or could you take his nappy off and sit him on a mat on your knee and wait?

It may be an adhesive bag type thing that you put over babies genetals. When DS was in hospital once they used one of those to collect urine for testing.

The adhesive bag things are really tricky to stick on. DS1 screamed and hated it.

In the end the Dr told us to put a clean nappy on, wait until DS did a wee into that and then imediately squeeze the urine out into a container.

I'd fill the front of his nappy with cotton wool or a clean flannel - not sure you'd manage to squeeze anything out of a disposable nappy ?

Just a quite hint when my DS was in neo natal unit they used to place a large piece of cotton wool in the nappy then place in the test tube. Infact i say they but it came under the list of my jobs!

if they arent too mobile, i would lay them naked on change mat with a piece of cling fil over it, wait for pee then pour it in :)

I fed DS til he had a wee and then caught it!

Hi, it was an adhesive bag. I put it on him, turned my head for a millisecond & he was filling it up. It would of been one of his little 'suprises' any other time. It was so much easier then expected, done by 6.05 am, so had time for coffee (me) & bath (him). Yay!
