Starting School - upset tummy

DS started school today. Last Thurs to Sat he had upset stomach. He was fine for most of day, but then would have to rush to toilet 6 or 7 times in space of hour or so. Poos v watery and yellow. Cut back his food as much as poss on Sun and limited Sun and Mon to plain white bread and plain biscuits. Thougt things had improved, but teacher said he went to toilet about 7 times this morning. And he said his tummy a bit sore and had pooed 3 times. Teacher happy that it's prob at least partly nerves and happy for him to go back tomorrow. Is there anything I can do to help him? Anything really gentle I can give him to "block him up" a bit. Don't really want to mess around with his system, but don't want him getting any more worried than he already is about having an accident. Any thoughts gratefully received.

awww - sounds like he coped brilliantly! Bananas and boiled eggs are good for blocking up. Don't give him any dairy and as little sugary food or drinks as possible (obviously keeping him hydrated). If his upset tummy lingers on then pro-biotic drinks like actimel can really help.

I'd avoid immodium or similar because they are not designed for children and may give him a bad tummy ache, wind or make him nauseous.

Would he be very upset if you kept him with you for a day or two?

Hopefully others will come along soon with more suggestions!

Thanks for comments. Didn't really want to keep him off school as felt that might make a bigger issue of the whole thing and add to any poss anxiety. He had a good long sleep last night and was fine today at school. Not 100% yet, but def getting there. Thanks again.
