My dd got a splinter in the sole of her foot today from the railway sleepers in the garden. Its big about 10mm and 4mm wide. Its firmly embedded and I cant get it out shes struggles against me and it really hurts her. Obviously I cant leave it in there and Im worried itll get infected. Should I take her to the nure at my GP, will they help? Many thanks

Ow! Poor pet. :(

Ok soak in a warm basin with Epsom salts - will soften skin and help to draw it out - Epsom salts are best but even table salt will help a bit. Once it's soft see if you can find where it went in and very gently try to push the splinter back the way it came using pressure from opposite direction (credit card is good for scraping across to push). If it's very deep you may need to pull it out so tweezers with a pointy tip are your best bet. If you can't get it out yourself you will need to take her to get it removed asap. In the meantime plenty of antiseptic (do you have tea tree oil?). Even if you do get it removed make sure you soak it in Epsom salts to draw out any dirt/infection and use plenty of antiseptic until it has completely healed over. Hth.

You shouldn't use Tea Tree Oil on broken skin.

Even alternative information sources are clear on this.

As I'm sure does it's packaging.

There are plenty of effective anti-septic solutions that can be.
