DS had wound glued and hasn't worked

11 days ago now my ds, 7, fell down the stairs and hit his head on a chair at the bottom.
He split his head open in his hairline on his forehead.
I took him to A&E and they glued it closed.
It was glued by an F2 who seemed to need the support of the nurse. I don't believe she had done it before. Anyway she kept topping up the glue on his head until the tube was finished.
Initially I was supprised by the amount of glue running down his forehead, but assumed this was normal.
Anyway we kept it dry as instructed and left it be.
He ended up with a big gluy mass off hair and glue over the cut.
After 10 days I cut the hair and glue off. He now has a sore over the cut from where the glue has irritated his skin.
He then had a big spikey chunk of glue sticking to the cut.
So on day 11 I gently saw if it came off with tweezers. It did and he didn't even flinch.
So anyway he now has an open hole as the glue seems to have been smeared around the wound and filled up 'plugged' the actual wound rather than sticking the edges back together. Angry
My question is.... Is it too late to do anything about it now, 11 days after the accident?
Shall I just let it heal as is and face the fact he will have a huge scar?
TIA

Im not sure I fully get what it looks like but I would take DS back to see what can be done.

You need to take him back. Do you have any steristrips in the mean time?

MarineIguana · 30/08/2010 21:54

It sounds like a right state, poor DS. They are usually surprisingly bothered about trying to prevent scars IME, so this does sound like a botched job. Take him back (or to the GP) to get it checked and see if it needs more done to it.

Thanks for your replies.
I guess I'm worried that the skin at the edges of the wound won't bind now if re stuck.
Should also mention that I probably would have taken him straight down last night, but I am 39+5 weeks pregnant and trying to hold off contractions for a Sept. birth so an evening stuck in A&E would probably end up in the labour ward!!! Grin
Think I'll phone the dr's now for advice.

You should take him back, pregnant or not.

After 11 days, you can't do much. Any wound however big will eventually close, so you don't have to worry about that. The scar may be a little larger but with time it will change color and in a couple of years nobody will notice it, especially near the hairline. Messing with it now could make it look worse.

Thankyou gordonpym - Thats what my gut told me and why I didn't want a wasted visit to A&E!
I managed to speak to my Dr also, who said the same as you gordon, that its now too late to stitch or reglue.
Just need to leave it to heal from the inside out and keep an eye out for any possible infection.
Luckily his hair should eventually cover any scar.
Thanks for any advice
