new tooth in the wrong place, please help

DS,6, just showed me a new tooth coming BEHIND one of the lower centrals. The first available dental appointment I could get is at the end of September :(

Should I splash on a private dentist to have him seen sooner? How expensive could that be? I'm afraid that the tooth might fully grow and stay back there where it is now. The milk tooth is a bit woobly, according to DS. But maybe it needs to be pulled out straightaway?? It looks firm to me...

don't worry my niece had the same thing recently and her other aunt who's a dentist said it was completely normal and it would go into place one it had the space

Ah dd1 has two new ones up at the bottom, one is behind a milk tooth (the front two fell out, the others are taking their time)I showed our local dentist (NHS) and he was none plussed, said it would shift in time and they'd worry about it when she had more adult teeth (and there was me thinking about the orthadontists bill)

Frizbe - I remember going back to the orthodontist every 6 months in my teens (15/16/17) being told "come back in 6 months time when all your baby teeth have fallen out"

I have to confess by the time I turned 17 my dentist phobia had settled in properly and I got fed up going back to be told the same thing so never did

I had similar, I worry about my dd1 as she's getting her big teeth early (like I did) I was the 1st kid with braces in my class/year, but also the 1st to get rid of them and now one of my bottom teeth is going wonky again, go figure

I asked about this recently as DS's was doing the same -- the consensus was not to worry, as once the original tooth did fall out the new one would move forward to take its place, even though it seemed to be quite a way back. That does now seem to be happening.

I remember on my thread a dental receptionist posted saying that it was one of the most common panicked phonecalls to get from parents and the dentists she worked for had left instructions to reassure them not to worry and that it didn't need the child to come in for a specific appointment.

I was that dental receptionist..it is indeed normal

Anything wrong would have been on my conscience as I forgot about his last appointment and he missed it

Number 2 son had both his lower central teeth appear well before he lost the baby teeth.

We used to call them his dinosaur teeth - once assured by the dentist there would be no problem and is not abnormal

Praise be - now the baby teeth have fallen out and sure enough the others seem to have filled the space properly IYSWIM.

ds1's was growing behind. Milk tooth came out and it's now moved into position. still slightly crooked, but in place.
