Anyone had wisdom teeth out?

So everyone in my family always got there teeth early. So its no surprise that my nieces are either!

They will probably need to get their wisdom teeth out very soon with these oral surgeons. Anyone had to do this recently? Is it as necessary as the dentists make it sound?

I had mine out when I was 17. I had to have a GA and they had to smash them up to get them out! They weren't going to grow through straight so would have pushed my other teeth out of place if I hadn't had them out.
But I was asleep when they did it, and apart from looking like a hamster for a few days afterwards, it was no big deal.

I had mine taken out a few years ago when I was 25. I so so wish they had come out before and I eventually went private and paid to have them removed. I have a small mouth and they caused pressure and tension which led to headaches and general discomfort which I wasnt even aware of until they were removed. In addition there wasnt space for them to come out properly so I got a lot of gum infections, sore throats and tenderness which was miserable.

I had all four taken out at once by the most amazing Swiss dentist who didnt believe in GA, so used only local anaesthetic and breathing techniques. It took about two hours as two were tricky, then I followed the aftercare instructions, used my voucher for free icecream that the dentist gave me(!) and took it easy for a day or two. As I said, I wish so much I had had it done before-would have saved me a fortune in the Strepsils I was constantly sucking for the gum problems!

I had 2 removed at my dentists under local. Mine had grown through with tooth decay and were rotten plus they grew at a 90 degree angle. No real problems having them out, probably the same, maybe even better, than another tooth I had to have removed.

The worst bit was the sore jaw from holding my mouth open so wide (only got a smallish mouth - although people have said I have a big gob!! Don't know what they mean.....)

I had mine out at age 18 (top) and 40 (bottom). I would not leave them. If you leave them the jaw hardens, they get impacted and mine hurt a lot. Sod's Law states they will flare up when you are on holiday.
My son just had his 4 out all at once this summer, he's 19, no big deal but we are in the US where they use sedation and make you take anti-inflammatories and Vicodin. They gave me ice-packs to take home and he had no swelling at all. We did it because they were disturbing his orthodontics. He went out with his mates the same night! I think younger is easier.

i had mine removed in june..age 35.

the op was ok (2 out under general..had to have my jaw bone drilled to get them out) but the week or so after was dreadful...the ga made me feel really awful, and i think tbh that most of my recovery was from that rather than the tooth extraction...

my dd, age 6 had to have a back tooth removed under ga in july...she was absolutly fine...a bit sore the day she had it done, but was back to her normal self the day after...
