Hi - 1st posting so please be kind. DS (2) just diagnosed with Brown's Syndrome. The advice so far appears to watch and see. Does anyone out there have any experience of this problem / corrective surgery?

Hi have no experience with this but didn't want your first post to go unanswered! Hopefully someone will see this now it'll be back to the top.

Hi, I've seen it in clinical practice a few times, usually patients have very few problems. Surgery is sometimes done if there's a squint when they're looking straight ahead, but I've not seen any surgical procedures done in people who just have problems looking up. I'm sure you're daughter will be fine and the only outcome will be an interested optician when she has her annual eye test!

Brown's is a fairly benign condition.

And it's worth remembering that the problems noticed on looking up will become less noticeable as your child grows taller.

Watchful waiting is appropriate to make sure there is not a misalignment when looking straight ahead and there are no symptoms.

Keep the appointments is all you need to do right now.

Thank you ladies for replying to this and making me feel 100% better about things generally. Much appreciated.

Ds2 has this. Tbh it hasnt caused any major issues. He had a severe squint before hand which was mostly corrected by surgery, but it isnt something that we focus on iyswim, unless he has his eye check up

lou33 · 01/09/2010 13:04

I meant the squint was corrected before we knew about his browns

Thanks for the further reassurance lou33. Think the watchwords are just going to be "wait, see and chill". DS doesn't seem bothered by this so far so if he is happy, so are we.
