Aspergers and dla appeal.

Im new to mumsnet so excuse me if I've not got things quite right here!We are in the process of getting a diagnosis for Aspergers for one of our children.We have been advised to apply for dla for him and it has been rejected and now awaiting an appeal.
On reconsideration,the decision maker seems to have totally disregarded most of the info given by both myself and the doctors reports and even gone on to say that he has no issues within thoses fields mentioned.
Anyone been to one of these appeals?
Im finding this quite stressful and have been waiting for 16 weeks now and have been told I could have to wait up to a year to get an answer.
The centre we take our son to are adament he is entitled to this and luckily are willing to help us all the way-thank the Lord.
Anyway advice and tips for a successful appeal would be greatly appeciated.
